The Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac is a great value carpet cleaner, but don't get confused by the name, this is not a steam cleaner like the name would suggest. It seems to be a common term used for carpet cleaners which other companies use too.
What you do get though is a powerful carpet cleaner. Over time all sorts of dirt gets ground down into our carpets, affecting their appearance, and making them nasty dirty places for our kids to be playing on. Shampooing your carpets helps bring them back to life, restoring their color and getting rid of all that ingrained dirt.
The Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac has 5 motorised brushes which you can set to two different speeds, they help to aggravate the dirt and drive the cleaning solution deep into the carpet. Plus it has a 'Clean Surge' function which just means for stubborn stains then you can press a button and it'll give it an extra dose of cleaning solution.
It also has a long hose with a stair/upholstery nozzle on it so you can do your stairs or get at a stain on the couch if you want to, and has a bare floor nozzle too.
At $136.49 (at the time of writing) then this is a great value carpet cleaner, you don't get a heating element to keep the cleaning solution warm, but then you'd have to pay a lot more for it if it had that, and that price is why this is the number 1 selling carpet cleaner on Amazon.com at the moment.
The F5914-900 model has over 1,600 reviews on Amazon! A whopping 1,468 of those reviews are at 4 and 5 stars and seem to people absolutely love it, that is 89.84% of people who adore this. There are other people who don't seem to like this unit, but the main gripe people have seems to be to do with a leak from the machine, yet if you read the very first comment then a customer explains that that is caused by not locking a rod into place once you have put everything together, if you do that (she tells you how) then it sorts everything out!
How do I use it?
To start with you just fill the top tank up with cleaning solution and hot water from the tap. Then work on small areas at a time, so maybe 4 feet by 4 feet.
Run the Hoover F5914-900 over the area releasing the cleaning solution into the whole area, do it slowly so it has a chance to get rubbed deep into the pile of the carpet. If you spot a big stain you'd like to get rid of then use the 'Clean Surge' to give it a blast of cleaning solution, if afterwards it is still there you can redo that section again.
Once that is done then go back over it without releasing any cleaning solution and the machine will suck the solution and the grime out of the carpet and into the second tank the machine has while blowing hot air onto it to try and dry the area out too. Do this slowly and you may need to repeat it a second time to make sure you get as much solution out as possible, don't forget that is the grime it is picking up, so you don't want any left there if you can help it.
Then take a look at the area and see if there are any bits you want to redo, if it is ok then move onto the next 4x4 section until the whole room is done. At the end you need to leave the carpet to dry before you move the furniture back.
That's all there is to it!
